max speed 1995 targa 38

Post by steve brownlow » Tue Jun 16, 2020 8:06 pm

can anyone tell me what the max speed of a Fairline targa 38 1995 year be. and where throttle position would normally be at around 22 knots. At 2700 rpm she was doing 22 knots but throttles seemed very far towards the fully forward position. new boat so dont know what is normal on this vessel any thoughts anyone.thanks

Hi Steve,
Suspect you are a little concerned as to possible under preformance.
Looking at the original T38 brochure performance estimates are:
KAD42 34-36 knots
Merc 7.4L Bravo 3 35-39 knots.
Naturally lots of factors come into play: eg weed growth on the bottom.
Log under reading etc. etc.

Hi thanks for reply ,yes the bottom is clean as just been antifouled the revs were at 2700rpm my understanding was they should achieve around 3900 RPM. It was our first time out and our first boat so ive nothing to compare with. When we looked at pictures we noticed throttle positions were well forwards so I did wonder if it was under performing or whether there may be that last little bit forwards on throttles would give it that bit more rpm. We shall have to try make a point of being sure throttles are wide open next time were out and see what the RPM achieved.
